Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) as a professional release agent
The polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) is a liquid release agent used to create a thin, continuous and anti-adhesive film between the mold and the part during casting, laminating and composite manufacturing processes.
Its main function is to act as a physical separation barrier, preventing resins from sticking to the mold and enabling clean and safe demolding.
It is especially used in combination with mold release wax, forming a highly reliable protection system in high-demand molds.
How PVA release agent works
Protective film formation
Once applied, the polyvinyl alcohol dries and forms a flexible film that acts as a separating layer between mold and part.
Clean and safe demolding
It allows parts to be removed without damaging the mold, reducing risks of sticking and breakage in delicate or complex parts.
Use as a complement to mold release wax
It is commonly used over waxed molds to improve demolding safety in demanding processes.
Product application
Mold preparation
It is recommended to apply on clean and dry molds, preferably over a layer of mold release wax.
Application method
Apply a uniform coat using brush, sponge or spray, ensuring continuous coverage without uncovered areas.
Drying
Allow to dry completely until the protective film is formed before pouring resin.
Reapplication and maintenance
The PVA film is partially removed with each demolding cycle, therefore it is necessary to reapply in every production cycle.
If residues remain, they can be easily removed with water, allowing the mold to be prepared for new uses or later finishes such as painting or bonding.
Recommended applications
Suitable for processes with polyester resin, epoxy resin, fiberglass, vinylester and casting or laminating systems.
It is also used in complex mold making, prototypes, technical parts and applications requiring safe and controlled demolding.
Advantages of polyvinyl alcohol
High reliability as a release barrier
Reduces adhesion risk between part and mold.
Compatible with multiple materials
Works with thermoset resin systems and rigid or flexible molds.
Controlled finish
Enables clean demolding in processes requiring precision and repeatability.
